JOB TITLE: Fuel Clerk PURPOSE: Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Authorize and enable customers to purchase gasoline and other merchandise and accept payment. Ensuring the sales floor, cooler, and pumping areas are clean, sanitary, and full. A Fuel Clerk will also deal with spills and customer service problems as they arise. PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store. Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner. Genuinely thanks each customer and invites them back. Assists customers by: (examples include) escorting them to the products they are looking for securing products that are out of reach loading or unloading heavy items making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience. Answers the department telephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call. Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. Assists customers with gasoline purchases via computer screen or intercom. Prompt clean up of any gasoline spills and disposal in the appropriate area. Knows appropriate action program in case of larger fuel problems or fire. Understands and follows local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco and liquor. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps. Checks invoices against delivered gasoline. Follows and maintains all Federal, State, and Local regulations in regards to fuel storage, dispensing, and monitoring equipment. Cleans all equipment, floors, doors, walls and bathrooms according to sanitation schedule and standards. Maintains premises, including shoveling snow, salting walkways, sweeping, mopping, and maintaining landscaping as directed. Perceives immediate surroundings for customer needs and problems for store safety and security. Communicates clearly and distinctly on the intercom or telephone system. Updates price changes as needed on shelves, displays, pumps, and outdoor signage. Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress. Adheres to all company policies, procedures, Safety and Sanitation regulations, and individual store guidelines. Responsible for proper inventory control through pricing, stocking, and ordering. Ensures that all areas of the Fuel Center remain organized according to "5S" standards. Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Cleans customers windows and checks tire pressure Removes trash in a timely manner. Protects associates and customers by removing potential hazards from the sales floor in a timely manner. Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress. High degree of honesty and integrity and thus professionally represents Farm Fresh in protecting its property as well as its associates and customers SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB: (Physical demands outlined on attached PAR sheet) Have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with multiple variables as they are presented. Possess the ability to understand and follow written, verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing. Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages; copying figures, counting and recording Visual requirements include clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 40 feet with color vision, depth perception and field of vision. Must be able to work shifts varying in length and time, including nights, weekends and holidays. Must be at least 18 years of age. WORKING CONDITIONS: The duties for this position are normally conducted in a small convenience store environment but will occasionally require outside work. There is significant responsibility to maintain customer service levels and handle multiple priorities. Has occasional exposure to temperature extremes, cleaning chemicals/solvents and hazardous/flammable liquids. Full time associates need to be available anytime and may be transferred to other retail locations based on business need. This is a fast paced work environment where stressful situations are encountered. EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB: Box cutter, touch screen computer, safe, cash register, step stool, shovel, broom, mop, petrol clean-up supplies, various cleaning chemicals and supplies, telephone/intercom.
